The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season is just three more races away from crowning its champion and the competition is closer than ever. Kyle Larson is leading the pack, with Chrostopher Bell just five points behind him. The top-6 drivers are differentiated by around 50 points and every racer have a solid shot at winning the Bill France Cup.

2014 champion Kevin Harvick talked about the championship dynamic, ahead of this weekend’s Talladega race. The Superspeedway is known for producing the most chaotic NASCAR races ever and it is easy for any of the title contenders to get caught in someone else’s mess, which will ruin their championship hopes. If one of the top-5 racers can maximize on points earned this Sunday, he would dictate the dynamic of the championship at Martinsville and Homestead.

It’s really hard to predict now that they’re all so close going to Talladega because Talladega is just its own beast. And it’s so easy to get tangled up. Talladega is probably the way that this goes with stage points, and the winner at Talladega could probably dictate if one of these Chase guys can score stage points and win the race and have one or two of these other guys get torn up, then that’ll dictate who’s in contention as we leave Talladega.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

Further talking about the point, Kevin Harvick highlighted if a racer outside the title contenders ends up winning the race, while the front-runners struggle, the championship dynamic for the last two would be wild. All the uncertainty and the chaos the race could potential offer makes the event one of the must watch race of the season.

Now, if you, if you have somebody that’s outside the Chase or somebody that’s deep in the Chase, wins this race at Talladega, and nobody gets those massive points that you can get for winning the race and doesn’t score a lot of stage points, then nobody really gains or loses in that position. You’re not going to see as big a swing. So, there are so many unknowns going into Talladega this week that, from a fan’s perspective, it is going to be intense and fun to watch.

Kevin Harvick exposes how Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin struggles in Superspeedways

In the same podcast earlier, Harvick named two drivers whose championship momentum might get disrupted this week. The duo is defending champion Kyle Larson and three times Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin.

The duo has failed to deliver race winning performances consistently in Superspeedways since 2022 and with the rule change coming to affect this week, they struggles might continue. The veteran doesn’t seem to have any confidence in the No:5 and No:11 team for the week.

Larson’s been better, but he’s historically not been good on the superspeedways as we’ve gone into these situations. Denny Hamlin, same thing since we’ve gone to the Gen 7 car. He has not been a consistent contender up in the front of these packs with the way that you have to race.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

The duo might need to switch their priorities for the week and instead of targeting race wins, should be focused on maximizing points earned. It would be interesting to see how the potential chaos this Sunday is going to change the championship table spots of the veterans.
