The Tampa Bay Rays are not down yet. On Tuesday, the American League champions scripted a wild comeback in extra innings and walked off the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 and avoided the sweep.

They took the field at Tropicana Field on Tuesday knowing a loss would end their season and hand the Brewers a 4-0 sweep. In MLB history, only once had a team come back from 0-3 down in a best-of-seven postseason series.

The hosts struck first in this game as a double from Chandler Simpson gave them a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Cooper Pratt brought the Brewers back on level terms with an RBI double of his own in the 4th inning.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Rays were back in front. After picking up Jonny DeLuca‘s grounder, David Hamilton tried to tag out Junior Caminero, who was running towards third base.

Caminero somehow avoided the tag. Hamilton later threw the ball away at first base, which allowed the Rays star to score from third.

The Brewers’ third baseman redeemed himself in the next inning with a game-tying home run.

From there on, the game turned into a pitching duel between the two bullpens. In the top of the 12th inning, Pratt launched a go-ahead solo home run and put his side on the cusp of glory.

At that point, it seemed all over for the Rays. The NL side was 3 outs away from their first championship and seemed to be ready to explode on the pitch.

The Rays finally had some luck go in their favor. After Caminero hit a grounder down the third-base line, third baseman Joey Ortiz fielded it and threw the ball toward first base. However, his throw bounced in the dirt in front of Jake Bauers, who was unable to field it.

Shane Drohan then came in and replaced Antonio Senzatela. The relief pitcher proceeded to give up singles to Liam Hicks and Jonny DeLuca, which tied the game at 3-3.

A single from Simpson later loaded the bases. Pinch hitter Ben Williamson then became the hero for the Rays as his single allowed pinch runner Nick Fortes to score from third and walk off the Brewers 4-3.

With this wild walk-off win, the Rays lived to fight another day.

Social media reacts to Rays walking off Brewers in epic Game 4

Game 4 of the 2026 World Series sparked mixed reactions on social media. The Rays fans got some joy as they avoided the sweep and kept their slim chances alive. The Brewers suffered a late heartbreak as they were just 3 outs away from winning it all. For the neutrals, this game was an instant classic.

On X, some fans even questioned the decisions of Pat Murphy. The team could have brought in ace pitcher Jacob Misiorowski and tried to record the final 3 outs with him.

Several users highlighted this and slammed Murphy for his management in this game. One user wrote, “Pat Murphy punted this game away,” while making their feelings known.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

Misiorowski will be the starter for the Brewers in Game 5. A win for the Rays on Wednesday will shift the series back to Milwaukee, something the NL Central would want to avoid after being up 3-0 in the series.
