The Milwaukee Brewers were 3 outs away from winning the World Series on Tuesday. However, they blew the lead in the 12th inning and lost 4-3, leading to many questioning why the team did not use their ace pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. Manager Pat Murphy opened up about this decision in the post-game conference.
The Brewers entered Game 4 dreaming of their first title in franchise history. On Monday, they stunned the Rays 10-1 in Game 3 with a marathon 8-run 5th inning.
This win put them 3-0 up in the World Series and on the cusp of glory. Only once in MLB history has a team come back from 0-3 down in a best-of-seven postseason series.
Unlike Game 3, where they were blown away, the Rays put up a fight in Game 4 on Tuesday. They took the lead in the 2nd inning on an RBI double from Chandler Simpson.
After Cooper Pratt leveled the game with an RBI double, the Rays had some fortune going their way as David Hamilton first missed the tag on Junior Caminero and then threw the ball wide at first base, allowing the hosts to regain the lead.
The Brewers tied the game at 2-2 in the 5th inning as Hamilton made amends for his error with a game-tying home run.
The National League side took their first lead of the game with a solo home run from Pratt in the top of the 12th inning. This go-ahead shot from him put them 3 outs away from winning the World Series.

At that point, many Brewers fans thought the team could turn to Misiorowski for the save. However, Murphy and his stuff decided not to burn his arm.
Antonio Senzatela managed to force Caminero to hit a grounder towards the third-base line. Substitute fielder Joey Ortiz ended up making a throwing error as the ball bounced a bit in front of Jake Bauers at first base.

Murphy then gave the ball to Shane Drohan. The left-handed pitcher struggled in this outing and failed to record a single out as the Rays walked off the Brewers 4-3 and forced Game 5.

The Brewers could have turned to Misiorowski, but they did not. When asked about his availability, Murphy revealed that he did not want to burn him in a one-run game on the road while leading the series 3-0.
You can’t blow that type of situation on a one-run lead on the road. If we were in the 13th inning and we had a three-run lead, that might be a little bit different and probably still wouldn’t have.

Misiorowski will start Game 5 on Wednesday night. The right-handed pitcher, who is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award this year, will hope to finish off the Rays and avoid going back to Milwaukee with a 3-2 series lead.
Brewers record wild stat following walk-off loss against Rays in Game 4
The Milwaukee Brewers missed out on the chance to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays as they blew the lead in the 12th inning. With the walk-off loss, they recorded a wild stat in MLB.

The NL Central side was in dreamland after Cooper Pratt’s shot landed in the bleachers in the top of the 12th inning. They were just 3 outs away from winning their first World Series title.
However, they failed to record a single out in the bottom of the 12th inning. Following the fielding error from Joey Ortiz, Shane Drohan gave up 4 singles, which saw the Rays score 2 runs and walk off the game.
As per OptaSTATS, the Brewers became the first team to have a lead and be 3 outs away from winning the World Series title and lose the game without recording an out.

As for the Rays, they are the 4th team in World Series history with an extra-inning comeback to stave off elimination. The other three (1912 Boston Red Sox, 1986 New York Mets, and the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals) all went on to win the Fall Classic.

For the Rays to win from this position, they will need a miracle. However, there have been comebacks from a 3-1 deficit in World Series history. With momentum on their side now, they will hope for a strong performance in front of their fans in their final home game and try to take the series back to Milwaukee.
