Jannik Sinner is getting better with every passing event. The young Italian always had the talent but some doubters questioned whether he will be able to compete against the big boys. Sinner has proved each and every one of his doubters with his skill set in the sport., The 20-year-old became the youngest player to break into the top 10 last year, proving his mettle.

Sinner bowed out of the quarterfinals of the Australian Open after losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas. His trend of losing out tournaments in the quarterfinals continued as he lost to Hubert Hurkacz in the last eight in Dubai. Sinner was handed a rude awakening when he bowed out in the round of 32 at the Indian Wells.

At the Miami Open, he entered as the eighth seed and has truly lived up to expectations. He had tough outings against Emil Ruusuvuori and Pablo Carreno Busta. Both matches were three-set encounters but Sinner kept fighting and ultimately found a way. He then faced Nick Kyrgios in a match filled with controversies but the World No. 11 was calm and composed as he wrapped up the match in two sets beating the Australian 7-6(3), 6-3.

Francisco Cerundolo on the other hand has been a revelation in this year’s Miami Open. The Argentine tennis star is ranked 103rd in the world and has taken out players like Tallon Griekspoor, Reilly Opelka, Gael Monfils and Frances Tiafoe before setting up a quarterfinal date with Jannik Sinner. Although he got a walkover against Opelka, the American was already in a losing position and it would not have mattered much.

The 23-year-old missed out on the Australian Open as he failed to qualify for the Grand Slam Down Under. His best performances came at the Argentina and Rio Open where he reached the quarterfinals and the semifinals respectively. Coincidentally he lost both times against fellow compatriot Diego Schwartzmann

So his performances at the Miami Open are unprecedented especially his match against Tiafoe proved that he can develop into a decent player and may even enter the top 50 rankings if he keeps up his performances.
