CM Punk AEW firing [via- SeScoops and AEW on X]
On a day when WWE was plugging in last-minute delicacies to deliver a memorable Payback PLE to their fans, something major happened on the other side. Through an official press release via X, AEW revealed that they’ve terminated the employment agreements between CM Punk and their company. It stemmed from a backstage incident at AEW All in London involving Punk’s reported scrimmage with Jack Perry.
As a result, Tony Khan constituted a Discipline Committee to look into the matter and find the culprit. The members of the said committee were unknown for a while, but no more. Per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, AEW Superstar Bryan Danielson headed up the same group that ultimately decided to terminate CM Punk from the promotion. It was mentioned that the official committee also convened external legal counsel.
Following that, they made a unanimous recommendation to Tony Khan that The Best in the World be expelled. Apart from the documented paper, the AEW CEO also addressed his fanbase, where he opened up a bit more. Khan apologized to everyone who was disappointed to hear CM Punk’s AEW firing.
Tony accused Punk of being detrimental to his health and described his presence as threatening to everyone out there. Hence, the decision made was in the best interests of AEW talents, staff, venue operators, and more.
For sure, a lot has happened since then, and The Second City Savior has returned to WWE. Recently, Tony Khan declined to comment on Punk’s Survivor Series return as he couldn’t legally talk about it.
How CM Punk’s WWE return has fared thus far?
In just over 3 days, CM Punk has shattered multiple previously set records. His return has become the most social WWE moment in history. Moreover, he has already overtaken Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, and LA Knight to become the No. 1 merchandise seller for the company.
Apart from that, there were initial concerns over Punk’s backstage behavior and how he would conduct himself this time around. So far, he’s been pretty open to almost everyone. WrestleVotes reported that CM Punk’s first appearance on Raw in nearly a decade went well as far as the backstage camaraderie is concerned.
Various sources have indicated that Punk voluntarily reached out to people backstage and was humble during his entire stay. Everyone would hope that the 45-year-old maintains his dignity throughout this run.
