Cody Rhodes is one of the most beloved faces in professional wrestling. Not only WWE, he received immense respect for his stint with AEW, more as a wrestler than being the EVP. Rhodes escalated into a fan-favorite entity since his WWE return. However, The American Nightmare helped to nurture a lot of younger talent, back during his AEW tenure.

That being said, one of the current top stars in AEW recently admitted the same. And it’s none other than the energetic Ricky Starks. The latter’s debut came up against Rhodes when he issued an open challenge for his TNT Championship. It was 2020 and the June 17th edition of Dynamite where the shenanigans unfolded. In a gripping contest, a young Ricky Starks did his best to contain a much superior opponent, however he lost.

Despite of the debut loss, fans knew that they’ve got a star in the making. And today, Starks is among company’s top-tier talent. He almost handed an upset recently to the reigning AEW World Champion MJF. Both went to war for the title, where The Devil outclassed Daddy’s Stroke to escape a nightmare. Anyways, Ricky recently appeared on Rewind with Besa podcast to discuss his memorable debut, where he’d term that match as his career’s best.

“My first favorite match would be against Cody Rhodes. That was the match where I made my debut on Dynamite. That was the match that helped me get a contract with AEW. Also, too, that’s one of my good friends. So that sticks out in my head [as] one of my favorite matches.”

After suffering a torn pectoral muscle last year, Cody Rhodes is almost recovered. WWE has started the preparations for his highly anticipated return. As per the latest poster for Royal Rumble, he’ll compete at the marquee event. The recent vignettes that were aired over the past week on Raw and SmackDown indicates his comeback, very soon.

Now, if he do participates in the 30-man Royal Rumble match, he’s got a great chance to eventually win that whole thing. Previously, he was listed as the clear favorite to win this year’s Royal Rumble match. Hard to say whether his injury period has changed those plans or not. But, he’s sure to receive a significant place on the WrestleMania 39 card.

Rhodes has made it clear multiple times that his sole focus is to capture the WWE Championship. For sure, at one point or the other, The American Nightmare will fulfill his prophecy. After all, Dusty’s baby boy needs to bestow that World Championship over The American Dream, be it virtually.
