Winning multiple NFL MVPs doesn’t count for much if a quarterback struggles to perform in the playoffs. Lamar Jackson falls into that category. Experts consider Jackson an elite quarterback, but he needs to deliver more championships in order to keep pace with his peers.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy released his top 10 NFL quarterbacks list. Jackson did not make it. Portnoy picked newcomers Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, and Jayden Daniels ahead of the 29-year-old.
Portnoy explained the reason behind excluding Jackson. He said on the Wake Up Barstool show:
I value playoff success, which is why I’m not a Lamar Jackson guy and why I don’t have him as a top 10 QB.
Portnoy’s colleague Brandon Walker was stunned by the assessment:
What the hell are we doing around here?

However, Portnoy did not waver from his position.
2025 was a bad year for Jackson and the Ravens. In the week four clash against the Kansas City Chiefs, Jackson threw for 147 yards with one touchdown and an interception before leaving the game with a hamstring injury in the 20-37 defeat. He missed the following three games.
The Ravens fell behind in the race for the playoffs, and the situation did not improve even after Jackson returned to the starting lineup. A defeat on the final day of the season cost them a place in the wildcard round. Jackson finished with a 6-7 record. He completed 192 passes for 2549 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
Ravens insider sends caution to the Ravens about Lamar Jackson’s future
In 2023, the Ravens agreed to a five-year, $260 million contract extension with Jackson. That contract runs through the 2026 season.

The Ravens are reportedly in talks with Jackson for an extension, but have yet to reach a fruitful end. Sports Illustrated’s Jason La Canfora urged Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta and team owner Steve Bisciotti to pay Jackson before it’s too late. La Canfora wrote:
Do your fans a solid on the way out and secure Jackson to this town into his mid-30s. Let the next owner worry about future cap and future payroll, and restore order to your future team-building endeavors. Give him the $275M fully guaranteed, however he wants it.
Jackson handed in a trade request before his last extension, before the Ravens agreed to make him briefly the highest-paid quarterback in league history. The Ravens are back at square one once more. Jackson has proved that he’s a top signal-caller, regardless of the recent rankings. So, it would be foolish not to pay him.
Numerous reports have claimed that Jackson could ask for a trade, and La Canfora believes that the 4x Pro Bowler holds a lot of leverage in the negotiations.
Jackson has more leverage than ever before – entering a lame-duck year with an $85M cap hit next year and a no-trade clause and a no-franchise tag clause… that cap number is untenable and a new deal is required to secure any cap relief, and all roads go through Jackson.
