- Arthur Fils reached the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open after defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
- He is currently on an eight-match winning streak and aims to improve it against Jiri Lehecka.
- Fils has previously won titles at Indian Wells, Miami Open, and Monte-Carlo Masters this season.
Arthur Fils will be playing his career’s first Madrid Open quarterfinals. In the fourth round, the Frenchman downed Tomas Martin Etcheverry to schedule his match against Jiri Lehecka in the last eight.
Fils, who is on an eight-match winning streak, shared whether he thinks he can match Jannik Sinner‘s winning streak. After his straight-set win over Cameron Norrie in the fourth round of the ongoing event, Sinner improved his winning streak to 20 matches.
Don’t even mention it (smiles). For now, I’m just trying to win one more. Right now, for me, it’s not possible to even consider that. I think the most I’ve done in my career is maybe eight or nine. We’re at eight today, we’ll try to reach nine.

Before entering Madrid, the 24-year-old clinched titles at the Indian Wells, Miami Open, and the Monte-Carlo Masters, becoming the second man after Novak Djokovic to win the first three Masters 1000 of the season. After his win over Norrie, the four-time Grand Slam champion scheduled his quarterfinal match against Spanish sensation Rafael Jodar, who also beat Joao Fonseca in the third round.
Prior to arriving in the Spanish capital, Fils clinched the Barcelona Open against Andrey Rublev, winning his first title since the 2024 Japan Open. Fils also made the final of the Qatar Open, but he failed to defeat seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Fils holds a 2-2 head-to-head record over Lehecka. The upcoming match will be their third meeting this season, following the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open and the semifinals of the Miami Open.
Arthur Fils reveals in what areas coach Goran Ivanisevic helped him the most
Before this season, Arthur Fils played in the Madrid Open main draw twice (the previous two years), losing both times in the second round. He will be hoping to reach a Masters 1000 semifinal for the second time in his career following this year’s Miami Open, where Jiri Lehecka dismantled him in straight sets.

Before the Doha event, Fils hired Novak Djokovic’s former coach, Goran Ivanisevic. The youngster shared the aspects of his game that the Croatian coach helped him improve the most.
The serve, the volley…everything. Trying to go further down the line at times. Putting more pressure on the opponent. He helps me a lot with his experience. He was an incredible player.

Fils suffered from a lower back stress fracture during the French Open last year and was forced to hand the walkover to Andrey Rublev in the third round. After playing the Canadian Open, the 21-year-old was forced to miss the remainder of the season.
He made his comeback at the Open Occitanie this year, but after his quarterfinal defeat to Felix Auger-Aliassime, Fils was forced to skip the Australian Open. He returned for the Rotterdam Open.
He tells me when I need to change something or, on the contrary, continue in the same direction. It’s good to have him by my side. He was world number two. But what interests me more is how he won Wimbledon. It’s crazy. He told me a few stories, it’s very funny.

Before joining Fils’ team, Ivanisevic worked with Stefanos Tsitsipas last year. The Greek ace added him to his entourage before the grass swing, but they split after Wimbledon.
Ivanisevic and Djokovic parted ways in March back in 2024, and later, the former joined WTA ace Elena Rybakina‘s team. It was the first time Ivanisevic worked with a WTA player. But they split after the 2025 Australian Open due to the Stefano Vukov controversy.
