If there’s one thing that the legendary Tom Brady can’t tolerate is a comment about his playing method, whether on field or inside the locker room. That’s why, when his successor at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield, criticized it for creating a stressful environment within the team, Brady had to fire back which sparked tension between them.
Upon upsetting his predecessor, Mayfield tried clearing the air by saying he meant no disrespect towards the seven-time Super Bowl winner when he talked about the stressful environment of the Bucs after Brady’s departure. He addressed the ongoing tension between him and Brady following a solid 33-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, which was called by Fox Sports lead analyst Brady.
The Pro Bowler quarterback also shared his conversation with the future Hall of Famer and said Brady was “obviously happy” for him and is familiar how Mayfield enjoys himself while throwing the ball towards Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. He also expressed gratitude for being able to share a similar experience in a team and the teammates with the NFL GOAT.
Baker Mayfield laughs off Tom Brady’s stern response
Tampa Bay acquired Mayfield as the potential successor of Brady, which put him under the spotlight since the moment he stepped on the field as the starter after the 15-time Pro Bowler’s retirement. He has always been open about the pressure and scrutiny he faces in the Bucs to meet the standards of the legend.
That’s exactly what he was talking about during his appearance on The Casa de Klub Podcast. However, Brady didn’t like his comments and struck back by taunting Mayfield to visit “Disney land” to have fun as having a champion mindset is not “daycare.”
Rather than being offended by the former quarterback’s words, Mayfield took the high road. Although Brady’s methods definitely brought results, Mayfield’s game led the team to the NFC divisional round last season and 3-1 standing in 2024.
