Ben Johnson doesn’t appreciate unwanted distractions. Reporters had a front row seat to witness Johnson losing his cool when a cellphone went off during Wednesday’s press briefing.
Johnson is into the second year of coaching the Bears. During his debut campaign, the Bears finished with an 11-6 record to win the NFC North for the first time since 2018. In the first playoff game, they defeated the Green Bay Packers, earning a spot in the divisional round. The game against the Los Angeles Rams required overtime to settle the outcome. The Rams won 20-17 thanks to a tiebreaking field goal from Harrison Mevis.
Quarterback Caleb Williams played some of his best football in a Bears shirt. He led the league in fourth-quarter comebacks and nearly became the first Bears QB to cross the 4000 passing yards threshold. He Williams finished the year with 3942 yards, 30 total touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
However, after the NFL handed the Bears the toughest schedule for the 2026 season, they are under significant pressure to deliver. No wonder Ben Johnson appears a little on edge.
During Wednesday’s presser, Johnson discovered a mobile phone on the podium after it started ringing. When it rang for the second time, Johnson removed the device and said, “Does somebody want to take the phone away so I’m not interrupted again?”

Before taking over as the Bears’ head coach, Johnson called plays for the Detroit Lions offense. He helped Jared Goff realize his true potential. In Johnson’s final season as the OC, Goff led the Lions to a 15-2 record (best record in the league). Goff had 390 completions (72.4%), 4629 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Ben Johnson reacts to EA selecting Caleb Williams as the Madden 27 cover athlete
EA, responsible for creating the most-played NFL video game, Madden, unveiled Caleb Williams as the cover star for the upcoming Madden 27. Williams and his teammates at Chicago were ecstatic to hear the news, except for Johnson.

When NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reached out to Johnson for a reaction, he received crickets.

Regardless of how Johnson feels, Williams is the first Bears player to feature on the cover of a Madden game. Although he isn’t exactly happy about his rating, it’s another feather in his already trophy-laden career.
Ben Johnson and the Bears receive troubling news ahead of the new season
ESPN recently released its first power index projections for the 2026 NFL season, and it’s not looking good for the Bears. Despite dominating the division in 2025, the publication believes the Bears will struggle in the upcoming campaign.
The ESPN metric placed the Bears at No. 16, eight spots behind the Detroit Lions and an inexplicable 10 spots behind the Packers, a team that they defeated twice last year. The index projects that the Bears are an underdog to make the playoffs at 46.5% likelihood, and just a 19.4% chance to win the division back-to-back.

The Bears are breathing down the necks of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are just 0.8% better off in the playoff prediction list, and 1.6% behind the Dallas Cowboys.
