Even though LeBron James and other players moving teams have drawn a lot of curiosity for the upcoming NBA season, many were also eager to see how Ben Simmons makes his comeback.

Over the course of the offseason, clips from his workouts down in Australia started showing up on social media. At the time, many were back to their trolling best, calling out the point guard for doing this year after year, but coming up short with his health and lack of motivation.

But in those clips, Simmons reiterated that he was on a mission to prove his naysayers wrong. He was visibly in the best shape considering his age, but fans wondered who would sign him, with his questionable history hanging over his head.

Even when the media was trying to indirectly promote him, they lost their minds. Fans called out the intentional effort to talk about a player who repeatedly let his teams down, while other deserving athletes do not get a mention.

Eventually, Simmons landed on the Sacramento Kings on another one-year prove-it deal. Then, in preseason games, the opinion about the 30-year-old started to change to the point where many were looking forward to how he could impact the team.

With just one day remaining before Ben Simmons makes his return after a year out, devastating news came out. The 6’10” star tore his right Achilles tendon, which effectively ends his season even before it began.

An injury now means that Ben Simmons will watch the 2026-27 season from his home as he waits for his repaired Achilles to bond tightly enough before he can even run. However, that setback will not stop the LSU alum from fulfilling his NBA comeback dream.

I’ve been knocked down before, and I’ve always found a way to get back up. This time will be no different.
