Bill Belichick is entering his second year as the head coach of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels football team after spending nearly half a century coaching several NFL teams. More than half of it, he managed the New England Patriots and was responsible for creating two NFL dynasties.
Belichick wasn’t alone in this endeavour. He had arguably the greatest quarterback in his corner, Tom Brady. Together, the pair reached eight Super Bowls and won six of them.
Speaking on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” show on FOX News, coach Belichick revealed that he couldn’t have won so many rings without Brady’s leadership and skills as a quarterback.
I learned so much from Tom. I never played quarterback. Tom saw the game through a quarterback’s eyes. I saw the game through a coach’s eyes. Together, I think we both learned a lot from each other.

Belichick drafted Brady in the year 2000. After sitting out his rookie year, Brady took over as the starter following an injury to Drew Bledsoe. He remained the starter for nineteen straight seasons. During that time, the Patriots were crowned division champions on seventeen occasions. He bagged three league MVPs and five Super Bowl MVP awards.

By the end of the 2019 season, the relationship between Brady and Belichick had reached its breaking point. Brady requested that the club release him so that he could play for a different team. At that time, it was unthinkable for fans to even consider Brady wearing a jersey other than the Patriots’ blue.
Ahead of the 2020 season, Brady signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and took tight end Rob Gronkowski with him. He also asked wide receiver Julian Edelman to come play in the NFC South, but he declined.
In his first year in Tampa, Brady won his seventh ring, one more than Belichick. However, Belichick has been part of two more Super Bowl-winning rosters. Back in his early days, Belichick won a couple of rings as an assistant coach with the New York Giants.
Brady stayed in the league for two more years. In his final game, the Buccaneers suffered a defeat in the playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys. Brady retired in 2023.
Belichick continued to coach the Patriots even after Brady’s departure. However, he never managed to replicate the same results. Following a 4-13 season, Belichick decided to step down from his position. He stayed away from coaching for one year before accepting an offer to coach the UNC football team.
Jordon Hudson reacts to Tom Brady’s joke about Bill Belichick
On Saturday, May 16, Brady gave the commencement speech for Georgetown University’s (GU) business school graduation. During the speech, he cheekily took a swipe at Belichick.

Brady said,
I want you to challenge yourself with ideas that are uncomfortable and people that push you to be your very best. Even if one of those people is a cranky old coach [Belichick] who cuts the sleeves off his sweatshirt and screams at you all day, ‘Do your job.’ Okay that’s too specific.
Shortly after, Jordon Hudson, Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend, reposted Brady’s speech on Twitter/X.

Belichick and Hudson officially began dating in 2023. However, they first met on a flight in 2021. Belichick visited Hudson at her cheerleading events. Belichick was married to Debbie Clark from 1977 to 2006.
How was Bill Belichick’s first year in college football?
Belichick had never coached in college football prior to the UNC gig. Due to his illustrious resume, analysts expected big things from the Tar Heels. However, it was all smoke and no fire.
UNC went 4-8 and finished near the bottom of the ACC. Meanwhile, conference rivals the Miami Hurricanes reached the CFP final, only to lose to the Indiana Hoosiers.
