When the Bill Belichick era ended with the New England Patriots last season, it also signaled the end for his assistant Bill O’Brien. Despite ending his stint in the NFL on a low, he first ended up with Ohio State and then as the head coach of Boston College. He knew his first game back in college football would be an uphill task going up against the No. 10 Florida State Seminoles. But the outcome stunned fans.

Boston College routinely do not get the best high school recruits, unlike their illustrious opponent. Knowing that they had to rely on the performance of every single player on the field. It seems that is what Bill O’Brien coached them for as they kept the pressure on the Seminoles from the first whistle. The No. 10 ranked team could not get their offense going in the first half. Relying on two field goals to keep them from entering the 2nd half scoreless.

It seems the halftime score of 14-6 wasn’t enough as the Eagles returned from the break to thump Florida State on their way to a famous 28-13 win. Bill O’Brien seemed to have managed to rile up his players despite knowing the odds were against them.

This was supposed to be their most difficult matchup other than the rivalry game against Virginia Tech next month. But with them starting with such a bang, Boston College and college football fans will be thrilled. They would like to see how the 54-year-old motivates his team to perform this season.
