Dmitry Bivol is now being discussed on a pound-for-pound basis. In a stunning upset, Bivol overcame former Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas. He successfully defended his WBA “super” light heavyweight world championship and cracked ESPN’s top 10 for the first time in his career.
Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion, drops all the way to No. 4 after increasing his weight to 175 pounds for the Bivol fight. Despite the close and disputed scorecards, Bivol outperformed Alvarez because Alvarez did not deploy any of his typical offence.
Bivol won the fight by successfully hurting Alvarez with a powerful left jab and right punch. In front of the media, Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin announced their third fight. The first person to speak to the reporters was a Mexican, and he was honest. He stated, “Yes because he always talks about me, a lot of s*** about me. I’m more dangerous now than before, That’s what I want too. Yeah. No, he always talks about me. Maybe he wants the last payday of his life, right?”
