Canelo Alvarez warned Ryan Garcia before the young superstar joined Oscar De La Hoya’s promotion. Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions has a history of experiencing conflicts with professional fighters. His reputation potentially ranks second only to Don King when it comes to disputes with their athletes.
Canelo Alvarez, a prominent example, departed from the promotion due to a disagreement and since then has always been vocal about their differences. During a recent interview on the FULL SEND Podcast, Canelo Alvarez went on a rant about De La Hoya and talked about the current situation of Ryan Garcia with the promotion.
He said, “Ryan Garcia because he sign with him but now Ryan Garcia you think he’s in problem with him. That’s why nobody wants to be with him because he’s no loyal. I tell Ryan Garcia before he sign ‘ hey, be careful and you need to see first what do you want for your career. Then he signed with him and look what happened.”
According to Alvarez, no fighter wants to work with Oscar De La Hoya and it’s the same case with Ryan Garcia, who recently suffered from it. The fighter revealed that he once warned Garcia before joining Golden Boy Promotions. Alvarez remembered asking Garcia about his goals and rethinking his decision to join the promotion.
Despite differences Oscar De La Hoya is looking forward to Ryan Garcia’s next fight in November
In June, Ryan Garcia claimed through a demand letter that his promotional agreement with Golden Boy had been violated. According to reports, the mediation between the renowned boxer and Oscar De La Hoya’s promotion is set to commence on October 18. Meanwhile, both parties are actively working on arranging Ryan Garcia’s comeback to the boxing ring.
It all started after Garcia lost his fight against Gervonta Davis and revealed in the post-fight presser that he didn’t get the best support from his promotion. This led to a lot of drama between both parties, which is yet to be sorted out.
Recently, during an interview with ESPN, De La Hoya cleared some air about the situation. He went on to mention that there were a couple of pending issues that were not expected to impede progress. Oscar expressed his belief that these matters would be resolved, allowing them to move forward with Ryan’s career. He emphasized that they were in a good position and expressed their desire to see Ryan fight in November.
