In addition, Benavidez has pushed for a showdown with Alvarez for years. However, there have been rumors that the undefeated super middleweight champion could meet Jaime Munguia next year. In an interview with Michael Benson, Benavidez revealed that he intends to fight Alvarez by September next year.

Benavidez stated that if Alvarez fights Mynguia next, he plans to ask Al Haymon to book a fight against Jermall Charlo. Furthermore, Charlo has also expressed the desire to fight Alvarez after he defeated his brother, Jermell Charlo. Hence, Benavidez wants to eliminate any potential opponent for Alvarez so that he cannot avoid Benavidez.
