The night belonged to David Benavidez who won the main event this weekend. The fight featured some of the best boxing action of the year and ended with Demetrius Andrade’s corner stopping the fight in the sixth round. This victory has caused a stir among boxing experts, who have expressed their desire to see Benavidez fight Canelo Alvarez.

Furthermore, fans and even Stephen A. Smith have now expressed their wish to see Alvarez fight. Benavidez, who had an unbeaten record prior to the fight, successfully defended his interim WBC Super Middleweight Championship. Thus, he has positioned himself as the mandatory challenger to Canelo Alvarez for the WBC super-middleweight title.

After the win, fans got their hopes up for a Benavidez-Alvarez fight, with fans wanting action from the champ. American journalist Smith also stated:

I don’t want to see Canelo fighting anyone before he goes against Benavidez. That is the fight we should all want to see in the Super Middleweight Division. Enough of all of this!

It’s no secret that there’s been a lot of pressure from the boxing world to see who will face Alvarez. Furthermore, fans are fed up with Alvarez’s reluctance to take on this fight with Benavidez, and now it is worse. But it’s not just the fans who are pushing for this fight to happen, because Benavidez called out Alvarez in his post-fight interview.

In the post-fight interview, Andrade stated that Alvarez was avoiding him and said he was the biggest challenge to Alvarez. Subsequently, things heated up when he said Alvarez’s last fight against Jermell Charlo was boring. Hence, Benavidez believes that he would be the perfect opponent to challenge Alvarez for the super middleweight title.

Benavidez got the better of Andrade by completely dominating him inside the ring. Subsequently, this led to Andrade’s corner calling off the fight in the 6th round of the highly anticipated fight. The highlight of the fight came in the final seconds of the 4th round when Benavidez knocked Andrade down with a vicious right hand.

Even though Andrade was able to get back on his feet, the damage was done. After Benavidez’s performance, there is no denying that he is a worthy opponent for Alvarez. Hence, Smith and the boxing world have collectively expressed their desire to see this matchup next.
