Boxing bouts were the primary reason why Francis Ngannou left the UFC. Ngannou openly talked about his interest in pursuing a boxing career. After signing the PFL contract, ‘The Predator’ can compete in boxing bouts. Last year, he had talks with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury about a boxing bout. Anthony Joshua is another big name in boxing that Ngannou is interested in.
In an interview with DAZN, Francis Ngannou hinted at a boxing fight against Anthony Joshua. He mentioned that the fighters discussed setting up an exhibition bout against each other. However, the promoter of Joshua, Eddie Hearn, shuts down the conversation.
In an interview with TheMacLife, Eddie Hearn said, “I spoke to AJ about the fight, [Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou] he likes it, and he gets it. But, he’s very focused on his boxing career at the moment. He does not want to derail that to do something a little bit gimmicky.”He’s [Francis Ngannou] is dangerous, but he wants to prepare for Deontay Wilder.”
The promoter admitted that it has the potential to be a huge fight. However, Anthony Joshua wants to focus on winning the heavyweight title. He lost back-to-back bouts against Oleksandr Usyk, and the path to another title fight goes through Deontay Wilder. Hence, Hearn dismissed the possibility of a Joshua vs Ngannou bout in the near future.
Eddie Hearn talks about meeting with Francis Ngannou

Former UFC champion Francis Ngannou will compete in a boxing bout this year. Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn praised Ngannou for pursuing a career in boxing. He talked about meeting Ngannou in an interview with IFL TV.
Hearn said, “I flew to Vegas to see Francis and, what a guy. What a story. We had a lovely lunch, and I’m interested to work with him in boxing. I think he’s a huge name. The Joshua fight was discussed, and we’ll see how it unfolds. I think it’s very difficult to jump into boxing at that kind of level. But, he’s strong, he can punch and he’s a huge star.”
Hearn believes that Ngannou can find success in the boxing ring because of his strength and knockout power. He also entertained the idea of a Joshua vs Ngannou boxing match. Only time will tell who Ngannou fights in his professional boxing debut.
