Jake Paul and Anderson Silva take on each other on Saturday night in a highly anticipated boxing bout, the headlines of which are already creating major head waves.

From riding in on horses to danceoffs, it feels like this bout is becoming a promotional marvel. Now, they have upped the ante with another tactic – a bet! Jake Paul fans will be familiar with this concept. However, this is not a bet akin to the one he had earlier with Tyron Woodley, wherein the loser needed to get inked their opponent’s name.

This was made very clear by Silva – he pointed out to Paul, when made the proposition that, “No tattoos” this time. Instead, Paul put to him an ingenious wager. He said, “If you win… I will fight you in an MMA fight.” Moments later he ratified this to “Kickboxing” as Anderson Silva pointed out that he does not train MMA anymore.

He continued, “But if I win, me and you come together to create a united fighters’ association to help UFC fighters to get better pay and better healthcare… you become the interim president, we unite to help these fighters once and for all.” Anderson Silva immediately replied with, “Deal!

If you know anything about the UFC, you would know that Dana White is the president of the company, and one who likes to stay centre stage, enjoying the attention. Fighters that get on his good side are usually treated better – whether that be in the form of contracts, promotional strategy, or other things.

Jake Paul is a combat sportsperson, who is not even part of the UFC, but has gotten under White’s skin on numerous occasions. The principal reason for Paul’s attack – demands for better fighter pay and unionization. With a bet between Paul and one of his ex-fighters, Anderson Silva, Dana White will no doubt hear about this, as in the world of combat sports, this is big news.

Essentially, the UFC has been accused of creating a pay hierarchy where not only are the top fighters paid only a fraction of what boxers or other sports celebrities earn, but the ones in the middle or lower groups sometimes need to find better jobs in order to live a secure life. Jake Paul has time and again come forward and pointed this out to White, which has resonated with the promotion’s fighters.

Win or lose Saturday night, Jake Paul could achieve something brilliant either way.
