Anthony Joshua will return to the ring on December 23rd in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Joshua is fighting the main event on short notice at the Kingdom Arena. The main event was supposed to be a heavyweight unification bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. However, Fury’s controversial victory over Francis Ngannou has postponed the fight. Hence, Joshua will take on Otto Wallin.
In a recent press conference held in Saudi Arabia, Joshua and Jarrell Miller reignited their rivalry in 2019. Furthermore, Miller threw shade at Joshua by bringing up how Joshua avoided Deontay Wilder for years. Subsequently, this triggered Joshua, who began to hurl insults at Miller while prompting him to shut up. This is what Joshua stated:
Shut the f**k up. Miller, don’t start with me. You know I’ll come over and slap you and I see you’ve brought your mum here, she needs her rent paid.Anthony Joshua to Jarrell Miller via press conference
Additionally, Miller stated that he did not like Joshua or Wilder. However, he knew that Wilder could beat Joshua easily. Subsequently, Joshua did not deny or address this, but his comments triggered a verbal exchange between both of them.
Currently, Miller is scheduled to fight on the undercard and will take on the former IBF title contender Daniel Dubois. Furthermore, Dubois is coming off a stunning August knockout loss to Usyk. Hence, Miller might be trying to pave his way to fight Joshua since their fight never happened in 2019.
Anthony Joshua and Jarrell Miller canceled bout in 2019
Joshua and Miller were scheduled to face each other for the first time in the United States In June 2019. Joshua was supposed to defend his heavyweight championship for the second time at Madison Square Garden.
During the buildup to the fight, the two men held multiple press conferences, which, like today’s press conference, saw them exchange heated words. Many people widely believed that Miller managed to irritate Joshua, causing him to become uncharacteristically triggered and angry. However, after all the buildup, the fight never took place because Miller failed several drug tests.
Hence, Miller was taken out of the event, and he was replaced by Andy Ruiz. Subsequently, Ruiz went on to cause one of the biggest boxing upsets by handing Joshua his first career defeat. A new matchup between Miller and Joshua might not happen.
