Why did Mike Tyson deny fighting the Olympic medalist Riddick Bowe?

Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe were both at the peak of their power in the 90s and but never came across each other inside the ring. They both knew each other from childhood and even went to the same school.

In an old interview, Mike Tyson revealed why he chose never to face Riddick Bowe or any of his other friends inside a boxing ring. Explaining in the interview Mike said, “I probably at this stage of my life and being these conscious as I am I don’t think I would…It’s just too disrespectful, the only reason you put your hand on somebody even in a street fight if you are conscious is because you have no respect for them, like Kids fight because we have no respect for each other.”

The interviewer was amazed by the fact that two heavyweight fighters went to the same school as children. Riddick Bowe’s professional boxing career spanned over two decades from 1988 to 2009. He managed to capture the undisputed heavyweight championship in 1992 and even won a silver medal in the Olympics of 1988. Throughout his professional boxing career, he fought in 45 matches and was victorious in 43 of them.

When Mike Tyson vs Riddick Bowe was simulated in a video game

Mike Tyson was undoubtedly among the greatest Heavyweight boxers to grace the sport of boxing. Although Mike Tyson faced off against nearly every big name in boxing during his prime, he never came across Riddick Bowe.

However, a simulated fight between Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe was depicted in a video on the Boxing Fight Simulations YouTube channel. It’s interesting that the simulation portrayed a very accurate scenario that would have taken place. Both the fighters came neck to neck against each other. But in the tenth round of the battle, Tyson finally succeeded in stopping Bowe with a devastating uppercut.

There has always been discussion regarding who would have triumphed if Tyson and Bowe had engaged in a Boxing match since their fight never materialized in real life. However, it seems the simulation has provided us with a fair portrayal of what might have transpired if the two heavyweights collided against each other in their heyday.
