Mike Tyson is one of the most well-known figures in the world and one of the greatest heavyweight boxers. Furthermore, Tyson made history in 1986 after becoming the youngest heavyweight to emerge in the sport of boxing. Mike Tyson continued to dominate his opponents even after reaching the pinnacle of the heavyweight division at the age of 20.
Subsequently, Tyson was well known for his ferocious and devastating punching power, which could KO opponents in close range. In addition, Tyson’s life has been very eventful and controversial and has consisted of several ups and downs. Hence, Tyson has enjoyed the fruits of stardom from an early age and has also suffered from them.
Furthermore, Tyson has several children, and once he was asked if he would like them to continue his legacy, Tyson stated, “No. That’s why I take the punches and get beat up and knocked out, so that he doesn’t have to. I don’t want him to ever do that, it’s humiliating sometimes.”
In addition, Tyson mentioned how a man must be deprived of certain things and must be hungry to be a fighter. Hence, an individual can only achieve anything when they have nothing in their lives. Subsequently, Tyson stated that he has not acquainted his children with that feeling and does not feel they were meant for the world of boxing.
Furthermore, Tyson stated that people can die inside the ring if they don’t have the required fighting spirit. Hence, according to Tyson, fighters who are hungry and have nothing to lose are meant for the boxing world.
Mike Tyson’s early life
Tyson grew up in the harsh streets of Brownsville, Brooklyn, where high crime rates plagued the area. Hence, while growing up, Tyson had to defend himself against bullies.
The first punch that Tyson ever threw in his life was when a neighborhood bully killed his pigeons in front of him. Subsequently, Tyson was arrested 38 times by the time he was 13 and had a juvenile life. In addition, legendary trainer Teddy Atlas discovered Tyson during one of his arrests and instantly recognized his potential. Atlas later introduced him to Cus D’Amato after training him for a brief time, and D’Amato later became a father figure for him.
On several occasions, Tyson has mentioned how his early life in the Brooklyn streets made him tougher as a person. Subsequently, Tyson has mainly attributed his success to D’Amato’s guidance, and without it, Tyson would have remained a street thug.
