Ace Indian boxer Vikas Krishan has stated that the much-anticipated 2021 Tokyo Olympics will be his last Olympic Games. The 29-year old is set to appear in the 69 kg weight category at the multi-nation tournament.
In a recent interaction with InsideSport, the Tokyo-bound pugilist expressed the thought of spending his life with family after the Olympics. Krishan has one gold and two bronze medals in the Asian Games alongside a Commonwealth Games gold. Vikas also told the reason why he started competing in the 69 kg category from 75 kg.
“I feel that the Tokyo Olympics is going to be my last Olympic Game and then I want to spend time with my family and have a different kind of life. So, my friend Niraj Goyat suggested me to play in the 69 kg weight category. My weight comes to 71 -72 kg during hard training. So I just had to cut two and a half kg. So that was not a big deal for me, thus I followed his advice and changed my category,” Krishan said.
Krishan recalls his bout with Vicenzo Mangiacapre

The Hisar-born recalled his recent bout with the 2012 London Olympic Games bronze medallist Vicenzo Mangiacapre. Krishan mentioned that he hit him with some power shots and the Italian boxer looked like an ordinary guy in front of him. The three-time Olympian also talked about his experience while training in the United States.
“Yes, I defeated a boxer from Italy in March this year whose name was Vicenzo Mangiacapre. I think that bout was one-sided. I dominated all three rounds, but I don’t know how the judges scored. I was confident that the score would be 5-0. But they made it close and in the end, I won. I hit him with some power shots and I felt like he was just an ordinary guy in front of me.
“I trained in the US for two and a half months. It was really a nice experience there I trained with some of the hard boxers. They punch really hard and they don’t back out. So, I got the experience and toughness from them. And apart from that, I increased my strength there when I was training,” he signed off.
