Jake Paul recently returned to the boxing ring in Puerto Rico against Ryan Bourland. He easily beat his opponent in the first round as the referee stepped in when Paul unleashed a bunch of haymakers. Then, he went on to call out the champion, Canelo Alvarez. This received huge backlash on the internet and now received comments from former UFC champion, Michael Bisping.
On his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping reacted to Jake Paul’s win against Ryan Bourland. As such, he was shocked when Paul called out Canelo Alvarez who was the current WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO champion. Soon, he went on a rant about it. He claimed Alvarez wouldn’t be down to fight him and stated that ‘The Problem Child’ knows it too. As such, he trashed Paul for the nonsensical callout and labeled his fights as ‘circus-freakshows’. Here is what he said:
He’s calling out Canelo because he knows damn well that fight’s not going to happen. Canelo Alvarez would not wipe his a*s with a Jake Paul payday. He's not interested in that...He doesn’t want circus sideshow freakshow fights. That's what Jake Paul's doing.Michael Bisping (via his YouTube channel)
Further, Michael Bisping ridiculed those who thought Jake Paul vs. Ryan Bourland would be competitive and proceeded to trash Paul for cherry-picking opponents. That said, he then explained his reasons for hating Jake Paul. He pointed out the PPV charges of Paul’s fights and questioned whether the fights were competitive. As such, he made a joke about his recent opponent who was an Uber driver – as exposed by Dillon Danis. A few days ago, MMA legend, Demetrious Johnson too put forth the same arguments.
Although Jake Paul extended his boxing record to 9-1, fans and critics weren’t pleased about it. They wanted him to face real challenges and boxers up the rankings. As such, ‘The Problem’ aimed a fight with India’s Neeraj Goyat next. However, would it fix his tainted views on his boxing record is to be seen?
Michael Bisping exposes Jake Paul cherry-picking opponents
Jake Paul entered the boxing avenue after succeeding as a YouTuber. He took an unconventional route, using his fame to attract fights with semi-retired MMA fighters and build up a name for himself. As such, he won against UFC veterans such as Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz.
Recently, he won his fight against a relatively unknown boxer which spurred a lot of controversy for ‘The Problem Child’ not taking tough opponents. Now, UFC star Michael Bisping has a few words to say about it.
On his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping exposed Jake Paul for only taking fights that he could/would win. He critiqued ‘The Problem Child’ heavily for it and labeled him a ‘Bully’. Further, he even bashed the boxing fans who bought the PPV of his recent fight thinking it was a competitive contest. As such, he advised Paul to take on commendable opponents and earn his respect. Here is what he said:
This was a handpicked, cherry-picked opponent for Jake Paul to beat up once again to continue the charade, okay? Jake Paul was always destined to win this fight and you're the suckers if you paid for this fight (PPV)...Jake if you're seeing this, Jake, Common, brother, if you want respect as a fight have some challenging fights. Beating people that you know you can beat, that's called being a bully.Michael Bisping (via his YouTube)
Michael Bisping’s comments, although harsh remained to be fairly true. Even the fighting community sided alongside Bisping and shared his sentiments. However, Jake Paul is responsible for “Influencer Boxing”. Many, including Turki Alalshikh, have condemned influencer boxing and want to eradicate it once and for all. But, now ‘The Problem Child’ aimed at the boxing titles and as such called out Canelo Alvarez, which didn’t sit well with the fighting fanbase.
