The Milwaukee Brewers took another huge step towards the 2026 World Series with a 6-2 win in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The NL Central champions are now standing on the verge of a rare postseason feat.

After winning Games 1 and 2 in Milwaukee, the Brewers headed to Los Angeles hoping to continue their winning run. They got off to a flying start as Jackson Chourio smashed a solo home run off Blake Snell on the very first pitch of the game.

They did fall 2-1 down in the 6th inning on a Will Smith 2-run double. However, back-to-back home runs from Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell in the 7th inning against Snell put them up 4-2. In the end, they won 6-2 and took a 3-0 lead in this best-of-seven league championship.

Last year, the Brewers were down 0-3 after Game 3 of the NLCS against the Dodgers. They went on to get swept, as a historic performance from Shohei Ohtani in Game 4 saw the NL West team clinch their 2nd straight pennant title.

The roles have now been reversed. The Brewers could complete the sweep of the LA-based side on Thursday and advance to the World Series for just the second time in franchise history. Apart from that, they are also on the verge of a rare postseason feat.

As per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, the meeting between the Dodgers and the Brewers is the 8th time two teams have met in the postseason and resulted in a sweep, and then met in the following postseason.

In this, the only team to be swept and then win in the rematch in the next postseason is the New York Yankees in 1923. After getting swept in the 1922 World Series by the New York Giants, they defeated them 4-2 in the 1923 World Series. This win was also their first of 27 World Series titles.

So far, there have been no reverse sweeps yet. If the Brewers win on Thursday, they could become the first team in MLB history to do so.

Jake Bauers explains key difference between current Brewers’ team and the 2025 version

The Milwaukee Brewers are very close to completing an ultimate postseason revenge over the Los Angeles Dodgers. A win on Thursday will see them complete a 4-0 sweep and end the reign of the Dodgers as champions. Jake Bauers later explained a key difference between this team and the 2025 version.

In 2025, the Brewers had the best record in the league and went 6-0 in the regular season against the Dodgers. Then they got swept 4-0 in the NLCS.

This year, they once again had the best record in the league at 103-59. While they did not sweep their current opponents in the regular season, they are one win away from their first Fall Classic trip since 1982. So what changed?

As per Bauers, this year the team has belief in itself. While speaking with the FOX Sports MLB crew, the first baseman claimed that last year they were just happy to be in the NLCS. This year, they believe they can beat anybody.

Yeah, the difference is belief. The difference is belief. I think last year we got to this point and we were just kind of happy to be there. We were happy to be there, happy for the opportunity. … We believe this year. We know we can play with anybody.

Jake Bauers told FOX Sports MLB

It was Bauers who turned the game in his team’s favor in the 7th inning. He smashed a 2-run go-ahead home run on the 11th pitch of his at-bat against Blake Snell. Garrett Mitchell then hit a solo home run as the Brewers went back-to-back.

History is on the side of the Brewers. Only once out of 42 times before have teams failed to win a best-of-seven postseason series after being 3-0 up.

If the Brewers move on, the 2026 World Series will either produce a first-time champion or end a long championship drought. They and the Tampa Bay Rays have never won the World Series, while the Cleveland Guardians have not tasted championship success since 1948.
