Cody Rhodes‘ coronation at WrestleMania XL marked the dawn of a new era in WWE. However, was he always destined for glory? Not really, per The Rock‘s business partner, Brian Gewirtz. The latter was recently a guest on the Busted Open Radio podcast. In the conversation he had with Dave LaGreca and Tommy Dreamer, Gewirtz delved into Rhodes’ initial roadmap for The Showcase of the Immortals this year.

Seemingly beating around the bush, the SVP at Seven Bucks Productions claimed with conviction that the fans would’ve hated what WWE originally had in mind for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 more than anything in life itself. However, Brian didn’t elucidate the plans. A lot transpired off camera in the period following Cody’s Royal Rumble triumph and the culmination of his story with Roman Reigns at The Show of Shows.

Fans still vividly remember that sullen look on The American Nightmare’s face when he stepped aside for The Rock. But it was supposed to be more uplifting, asserted Gewirtz. And if The Great One’s personal writer is to be believed, WWE informed Cody of his main event spot at WrestleMania in jeopardy the day of the Royal Rumble. Brian termed Rhodes’ consecutive Royal Rumble coup problematic.

I can say this with 100% certainty that the original plan is something that many people would've hated more than anything in life itself. I can’t overstate or understate that, I can’t state that anymore clearly.

Moreover, he even went on to reveal that Dwayne Johnson committed to be a part of WrestleMania XL a year in advance. Brian Gewirtz, as expected, was the Black Adam star’s representative in figuring out the creative plans leading to the 52-year-old finally wrestling Roman Reigns in that dream match. But an unprecedented fan uproar precluded any of those aspirations and Dusty Rhodes‘ son stood out on top.

What could The Rock do while he’s away from WWE?

An excerpt from the aforementioned interview of Brian Gewirtz tells that The Rock might resort to his profanity-laden social media promos every once in a while. Those who were there for the ride know how menacing the Hollywood actor had become once he rechristened his alter-ego right out of the Attitude Era.

The People’s Champ just casually cursing his foes put WWE’s media rights partners in a stranglehold. Even though Cody Rhodes put an exclamation mark to Roman Reigns’ 1316-day title reign at WrestleMania, he didn’t put away the Jumanji actor.

Instead, the latter was the one to pin Cody in his first WWE match back in 8 years. A singles showdown between the two is heavily rumored to take place at next year’s WrestleMania in Las Vegas. The Brahma Bull is currently filming A24’s The Smashing Machine.
