In Short
  • The Cleveland Browns drafted quarterback Taylen Green in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
  • Skip Bayless criticized the move as disrespectful to Shedeur Sanders, suggesting it undermines his position.
  • Taylen Green's addition intensifies competition in the Browns' quarterback room, which already includes Sanders and Deshaun Watson.

The Cleveland Browns and their quarterback room misery are a consistent storyline at the NFL Draft for the past couple of seasons. The Browns, despite a packed locker room with Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and the controversial Deshaun Watson, drafted yet another quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Browns drafted Arkansas Razorbacks’ Taylen Green as the 182nd overall pick in the sixth round, a move that the sports pundit Skip Bayless has termed as disrespectful to Sanders. Bayless slammed the new head coach, Todd Monken, for undermining the quarterback as well as for complicating an already complicated room.

The Browns started three different quarterbacks last season before sticking with Sanders towards the end of the season. The Colorado Buffaloes alum played eight games, finishing with 1700 passing yards and a 7:10 touchdown-interception ratio.

Despite a high interception rate, the lack of solid coaching and ineffective quarterback development were cited as the primary reasons for Sanders’ poor performance. Under new leadership, Sanders was predicted to have his breakout season.

Bayless addressed the matter of Green being drafted as a sign that Monken doesn’t have much trust in the young quarterback. In a vocal rant on The Arena: Gridiron, Bayless also added that the decision puts too much pressure on Sanders:

Why would you bring in [Green]? It just scares me that Monken is saying, ‘I could work with that.’ … I’m saying, ‘What are you doing to Shedeur? Why would you bring in a kid that’s younger than him now and say, well, he’s got a chance.’

The Cleveland Browns had ten picks at the NFL draft and managed to fulfill most of their requirements entering the draft. The Browns had some significant holes in both offense and defense, especially in quarterback protection and playmakers, which they now have.

Here’s Browns’ entire draft class of 2026:

Taylen Green could spice up the Browns’ quarterback fight

In the early days of the offseason, the Cleveland Browns admitted that there’s no straightforward selection for the signal-caller in the Ohioan city. The Browns are overlooking their controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson‘s s*xual misconduct allegations and setting up a fight for QB1 with Shedeur Sanders.

Taylen Green’s introduction adds more fuel to the competition. Green brings ample experience as a collegiate quarterback, playing three years at Boise State and two at Arkansas. He threw for 9,662 passing yards and 59 touchdowns across 53 games, making him a real threat for Sanders.

Green was asked about Sanders in his introductory press conference, where he shared some praise for the latter.

Yeah, I mean, I know of him. I don’t have a personal relationship with him. He played high school in Texas, so we went to similar camps. … That’s how I know of him. But, like I said, I don’t have a personal relationship with him. But what he did at Colorado and what he did last year was really good.

He added that he’s excited to work with the Browns and the quarterback room in Cleveland, including Sanders. He explained that they have had significant experience and success not just in college but also in the NFL.
