Just a day ago, Caitlin Clark gave a hint on when her signature shoe will be launched for the public. The Indiana Fever superstar unveiled through a pair of friendship bracelets that fans will get their hands on the shoe on October 1st.

That may not have been an official announcement, but there was no way she could do that without Nike’s blessings. Moreover, her attire and social media profile pics were changed. That meant an announcement was inevitable.

Her Instagram handle has been changed to ‘Caitlin 1,’ which is the name of her upcoming signature sneaker. Since it features a swathe of small blue Cs surrounding a Nike logo, fans understood that it was possible the main body of the shoe.

Then, when she wore a royal blue suit to the game against the Toronto Tempo, they confirmed that the first shoe was likely to be blue.

Finally, that time came about when both the sneaker giant and the 24-year-old released the first pictures of Caitlin 1. The shoe is undoubtedly the same blue with small Cs surrounding it, and sports a new swoosh design.

Other than a thin pink undersole, the shoe is dominated by blue. Her signature logo, which in customary Nike fashion is stitched into the tongue. Even that is blue.

This shoe will go on sale on October 1st and is likely to be a global release. However, the first design has left fans underwhelmed.

Fans call out Nike for bland Caitlin Clark signature shoe

It so happens that when Nike designed A’ja Wilson‘s A’One, fans felt that the company had given its creative team a free hand to come up with a standout sneaker.

But when it came to Caitlin Clark, the sneaker giant’s highest-paid WNBA superstar, fans felt Nike had not done its best at creativity. In fact, some believe it looked similar to the shoes other Nike ambassadors wear.

They pointed out that her Kobe Protro PEs were better looking, which explains why they sold out in minutes. Fans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction over the Caitlin 1, examples of which are below.

Many fans remarked that they would wait to see the colorway options before deciding which one to buy. If they, too, turn out to be as disappointing as this launch edition, expect sales to reflect that.

Caitlin Clark will likely debut her shoe against her arch rival

When Caitlin Clark gave out those hints about the launch date, reporters asked whether she would debut them sometime this season. She did not reveal when, but their next game makes the most sense.

It so happens that the Indiana Fever will welcome the Atlanta Dream to Gainbridge Fieldhouse tomorrow. With arch-rival Angel Reese on that team, it seems the Iowa native and Nike thought long and hard about this.

The Dream forward will play in her signature shoe, the AR1. Fans even pointed out that those sneakers are better designed than the Caitlin 1.

But this is about making a statement. If Clark and her teammates manage to continue their winning streak against her arch-rival, it would be the best launchpad for her first signature shoe.

However, they risk fumbling it all. If the Dream pulls out an upset, not only will the critics line up at the door to troll both Caitlin Clark and Nike, but they will inevitably get the chance to promote Angel Reese’s signature shoes.
