The New Orleans Saints have had quite the experience in the past two decades. After winning Super Bowl XLIV, the franchise has not had anything major to cheer about, except maybe having one of the better defenders in the league in Cameron Jordan for 15 years.

The pass rusher arrived at the organization as the 24th overall pick in the 2011 draft. At the time, the Saints were still considered Super Bowl favorites, and Jordan was supposed to help achieve that goal.

Fast-forward to now, and the goal is still unfulfilled. The other core pieces, such as Drew Brees and Sean Payton, are long gone.

The quarterback retired and is now part of the broadcast team, while the coach has switched allegiances and is now leading the Denver Broncos.

That leaves Cameron Jordan as the sole-surviving member of that core. Sure, there is Alvin Kamara. But running backs do not last long, especially when their contracts or demands become a bit too much for the franchise.

He is still around, but there was confusion around the sack artist’s future. After several conversations with the Saints and his family, the 36-year-old has decided to return to the franchise that drafted him.

The franchise announced the deal, which will be a one-year affair. That also means the Arizona native will retire after this season. In a video posted on his X page marking his return, ‘one final season’ was written in capitals.

It is difficult in the NFL to stay with one team throughout one’s career, but Cameron Jordan has made it a point to stick around until he is done with his.

Cameron Jordan’s son pushed him towards playing one more year

As a pass rusher, Cameron Jordan has to take a lot of punishment before he gets to the quarterback. If one has been facing it for fifteen straight years, it takes a toll on the body and even on the mind.

What is stunning is that the California Golden Bears alum has not missed a game in any season so far. For a defensive lineman, that is surprising, as any great player has struggled to play in every game of their career.

And that’ll do it for me.

This was the eight-time Pro Bowler confirming that it was his son Tank‘s, whose insistence led Jordan to return and play one more season with the Saints.

The franchise had an offer on the table, but the 2017 All-Pro was still waiting around. It seems his son’s birthday wish sealed the deal.

There are no details on the dollars involved in the contract. If anything, it should reflect last year’s 10.5 sack effort. Jordan may be getting slow, but he can still impact the game.

Cameron Jordan prefers artificial turf to grass

Before Jordan put pen to paper on his final NFL contract, the pass rusher was busy enjoying a soccer World Cup match. Since he was on a stream with Snapback Sports, host Casey Settleman asked the Saints star about his opinion on the grass versus turf debate.

I love turf. I’m on the other side of the field… I love sure-footing… I need my first two steps in the ground planted.

Cameron Jordan replied

The father of four clarified that it was particular to his position. He enjoys a good get-off, which helps him get an advantage over the offensive lineman on his way to sacking the quarterback.

He acknowledged that artificial turf does have its drawbacks, but for him, it’s a blessing. Open field supporters might not agree with him, as the synthetic grass has allegedly caused a lot of injuries.
