At 21 years old, Carlos Alcaraz has become one of the most likeable tennis players of all time. The Spaniard currently has four Grand Slam titles, five Masters 1000 titles, and an Olympic Silver medal. However, he has the potential to elevate his resume even further in the coming years.
What is even more interesting is that Alcaraz is becoming a favorite not only among fans but also among the ball kids. He has mentioned that he doesn’t take this recognition for granted and hopes to remain an inspirational figure for them through his playing style and on-court behavior.
Alcaraz is known for having a smile on his face on the tennis courts, regardless of the circumstances. However, he has also had some out-of-the-box moments – when he smashed his racket during his loss to Gael Monfils at the Cincinnati Open.
Regardless of the good and bad experiences, they all contribute to Alcaraz’s development as a tennis player and a sportsman. At the end of the day, he is still only 21 and has a lot to offer to the sport despite already achieving so much.
Carlos Alcaraz surpasses Jannik Sinner in an impressive stat at the China Open
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling match to reach the China Open final for the first time. The Spanish player showcased an impressive performance, winning 7-5, 6-3 against the world No. 5 in the semifinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing.
With this victory, Alcaraz improved his record against Medvedev to 6-2. He has won six of their last seven matches. This season, his record against top five players has also been remarkable, standing at 7-1. At just 21 years old, Alcaraz has now surpassed world No. 1 Jannik Sinner for the most wins against top five players in 2024. Both players had been tied at six wins before this match.
Three of Alcaraz’s wins against top-five opponents this year were against Medvedev. He also defeated Sinner twice and has one win each over Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic. Notably, Djokovic is the only top-five player to beat Alcaraz this year, winning in the Olympic gold medal match. That was the Serb’s only title of this season so far.
