After a three-hour and twenty-one-minute intense duel, Juan Carlos Ferrero was seen in tears in his box. The Spaniard couldn’t hold back his emotions after watching Carlos Alcaraz triumph over Jannik Sinner, in a match that could have easily gone the other way.
Alcaraz began the first set better than Sinner and led 5-2. However, Sinner found his game rhythm in the match and forced the set into a tie-break. The Italian came out on top 7-6(6) and was a set away from clinching the title. Alcaraz hit back in the second set 6-4 to force the tie to a deciding set.
The Spaniard didn’t continue with the momentum leaving Sinner to take control of the third set. Alcaraz only managed to find a way to come from behind each time Sinner led. In the third set tie-break, the Spaniard was on the brink of defeat after letting Sinner lead 0/3. Surprisingly, he won the remaining seven points to claim the win 6(6)-7, 6-4, 7-6(3).
While waving to the fans on the court, Juan Carlos Ferrero was seen seated in the box in tears. Alcaraz was asked about his coach getting emotional after the win, and the Spaniard revealed that it was because of the difficult moments he had on the court last month.
Alcaraz went through a difficult period at the North American hard court swing. The 21-year-old managed to win just one match in two tournaments, including a second-round defeat in the US Open.

Carlos Alcaraz didn’t drop a set until the final in his China Open triumph. The Spaniard had arrived with the hopes of redeeming himself after a poor performance during the North American swing.
The 21-year-old’s victories at the Davis Cup and Laver Cup gave him the much-needed confidence heading into the China Open. He beat Jannik Sinner in three sets and remains the only player to have beaten the world No.1 thrice this season.
Alcaraz will not have much time to take in the victory as he will head to Rolex Shanghai Masters which has already gotten underway. He will also hope to claim his first Shanghai Masters title.
