- Charles Barkley criticized Jaden McDaniels for taunting the Nuggets, stating "You don't poke the bear."
- Barkley emphasized that trash talk can motivate opponents, especially in the playoffs.
- Nuggets coach David Adelman dismissed McDaniels' comments, highlighting his team's strong defensive performance.
After winning Game 2 of their first-round series against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves star Jaden McDaniels‘ taunt caught everyone’s attention.
It was an impressive come-from-behind performance where the Wolves proved that they are not going to be pushed around by the more experienced Nuggets.
At the same time, the Wolves also showed resilience, clamping down on Jokic and his teammates when it mattered. With the series heading to Minnesota, it was McDaniels’ post-game comments that had everyone talking.
Usually, leading superstar Anthony Edwards is the one who initiates such conversations. But his was mild in comparison to his teammate, who named Nuggets players while calling out their lack of effort on defense.
Carmelo Anthony already gave them a warning that it was too early to be talking smack to a recent championship-winning team. Another Hall of Famer continued to harp on that note.
I don’t think he should’ve said that… You don’t poke the bear… We’ve all said stuff like that in the locker room, coaches have said that to players, and players say to coaches… But I don’t think you poke the bear in the middle of the series… It’s not about being scared… It’s hard enough to win.
Charles Barkley said
While he was saying this, Inside the NBA colleague Shaquille O’Neal kept intervening and suggesting that it was ok to talk trash. But Charles Barkley insisted that Jaden McDaniels and his Timberwolves teammates should not have done it this early.

It seems he believes it gives the Nuggets a chance to come back with an answer. All a team needs is a spark. In the playoffs, it is hard to win, and that is why Barkley felt it was unnecessary.
Nuggets head coach claps back at Jaden McDaniels’ taunts
Former players with varied experiences are doing their bit to warn Jaden McDaniels and his Minnesota Timberwolves of the perils of speaking up too early.

With just two games down, the last thing he or his teammates should do is to motivate their opponents. It seems the Denver Nuggets are listening to all the chatter and already have answers ready.
I can’t wait for his podcast… Not for me. I think narratives are really interesting too… What’s our defensive rating in this series?… 109? How is that?… Sixth best in the playoffs?
David Adelman said
This was the Nuggets’ head coach essentially tossing out Jaden McDaniels’ taunts as something he did to boost his social media profile.

“It’ll help his social media.”

David Adelman then, with the help of the very reporters questioning him, pointed out how his team is one of the best in the playoffs defensively. This means that he was dismissing the Wolves’ star’s words.
When another reporter asked whether his players were bothered by McDaniels calling them out by name and criticizing them, he responded that those comments were good for his social media.
Nuggets players not bothered by Jaden McDaniels’ words
Even though David Adelman was clear about how he and his players thought about Jaden McDaniels‘ words, reporters still wanted to ask some of them directly what they felt about hearing those taunts.
They just been saying a lot. All season, all series. Let them talk. Let them get everything they want off their chest. We’re cool with it.
Cam Johnson told reporters
This was Cam Johnson, one of those who Jaden McDaniels labeled as a bad defender in his locker room interview. The forward had a very clear response to all the questions.
He, or his teammates, were unbothered by the Timberwolves’ trash talk. He did not specifically mention McDaniels, but spoke in plural. That means their opponents as a whole have been talking smack for some time.

The irony is that they are not only aware but also do not care. When the two teams battle at Target Center in the next two games, it will be a battle between the trash-talking Wolves and the calm and quiet Nuggets.
