- Cody Rhodes expresses doubt about the likelihood of a dream match with CM Punk happening in WWE.
- He acknowledges the challenges of collaboration in wrestling and the impact of celebrity involvement.
- Rhodes remains focused on settling his ongoing feud with Randy Orton after their WrestleMania encounter.
Cody Rhodes came out of this year’s WrestleMania as still the Undisputed WWE Champion. He overcame his wrestling mentor Randy Orton, whose temporary alliance with Pat McAfee came back to bite him, and it ultimately resulted in Rhodes taking advantage of a distracted Orton.
While their feud doesn’t appear to be over with ‘The Viper’ hitting the punt kick to stand tall despite losing, WWE might hold it off for the time being. It would allow Rhodes to feud with other names on the roster and especially with someone he considers a dream opponent—CM Punk.
‘The American Nightmare’ was asked about his all-time dream match on ESPN‘s The 3 Count segment. Rhodes said that even though the fans expect that it would definitely happen, in reality, it is very difficult to put together. He was talking about the dream match that he’d love to be a part of, and it’s no surprise Rhodes named Punk.

"The likelihood of it happening, who knows?
"I don't know if he'd want that, and I don't even know if I'd want it.
"I know it would just be really great and be very good for wrestling."

‘The QB1’ wasn’t sure about the likelihood of it happening, saying wrestling has gotten difficult with them being operating as collaborators these days. ‘The Prodigal Son’ didn’t know if Punk would want that or even if Rhodes himself would, but he stressed that their feud would be great for this business.
The line where Cody Rhodes referred to WWE as collaborators could very well be him alluding to the increased celebrity involvement culture in the company of late. Last week on SmackDown, Rhodes, in fact, warned the outside forces meddling with his creative plans close to WrestleMania every year.
‘The American Nightmare’ was pretty vocal about his dissatisfaction with the interjection of Pat McAfee in his storied rivalry with Randy Orton that recently culminated at WrestleMania. Rhodes is apparently anticipating a similar pattern to follow if he were to feud with CM Punk, and more so if it led to them wrestling at a future WrestleMania.
Rhodes did confront Punk on Raw after WrestleMania and exchanged a few words with the ‘Best in the World’. After Punk asked him to continue being a champion, he set his eyes on the prize and teased a future world title showdown with Rhodes before exiting the ring.
The former AEW EVP stopped Punk and responded with “Just say when” to the Chicagoan, who smirked with his back facing the champ. Based on how explicitly it was teased on Raw, the fans believe that the Rhodes vs. Punk feud is inevitable.
Is WWE going to continue the feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton?
Cody Rhodes does have to settle the score with Randy Orton. The latter gave him a black eye, which WWE leaned into by saying that it was the immediate aftermath of Orton using the punt kick to flatten his former stablemate at the end of WrestleMania Saturday. ‘The Apex Predator’ wasn’t on SmackDown last week, but Rhodes was, and he talked about overcoming his master.

The erstwhile Stardust asserted that even the vicious punt to the side of his head couldn’t keep him grounded for long as he made that long walk back on his own. On top of that, Rhodes showed up on both Raw and SmackDown, which bolstered his notion of always getting back up no matter what.
The North Carolina native said he wanted to send a message to Orton that even after taking his best shot at Rhodes, the latter was still standing in that ring. WWE didn’t indulge ‘The Viper’ to ambush Rhodes right away, as he’s yet to be medically cleared for physicality. The Prodigal Son’s left eye had swelled up from a punch that Orton landed on him at WrestleMania.
‘The American Nightmare’ has since undergone swift improvement in his damaged eye as opposed to initial trepidation in WWE about his recovery. It would be interesting to see if the company would keep him engaged with Orton or if they have something else lined up for Rhodes before arriving to their rematch.
