Cody Rhodes has revealed that John Cena has a habit of loudly calling spots during his WWE matches. Rhodes discussed the 17-time world champion’s approach during an appearance on Good Hang with Amy Poehler.
‘The American Nightmare’ explained that Cena does not quietly communicate with his opponents during matches. Instead, he often speaks loudly enough for fans in the front rows to hear what is happening.
John is pretty great at the magic, except for one area that’s widely known to wrestling fans and wrestlers. John will not talk low or in carney as we would say… But John yells everything that’s going to happen in the ring as loud as he can possibly yell it. He calls it for the first four rows an interactive experience.

Rhodes was referring to Cena’s habit of communicating with his opponents during matches. Wrestlers regularly speak to each other in the ring to coordinate sequences and ensure the action progresses as planned. However, Cena’s approach has become particularly noticeable because of the volume at which he reportedly gives those instructions.
According to Rhodes, Cena does not attempt to keep his communication limited to the wrestlers involved in the match. His comments can be loud enough for fans seated near the ring to hear. Rhodes humorously described that aspect of Cena’s matches as an “interactive experience” for the first four rows.
The two WWE stars shared the ring on multiple occasions during their feud over the Undisputed WWE Championship in 2025. Their rivalry brought together two of WWE’s biggest names, with Rhodes representing the promotion’s current generation and Cena competing during the final stage of his legendary career.
Cena’s in-ring career came to an end in December 2025. His final match took place against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event, bringing his retirement tour to a close.
Rhodes has continued to speak positively about Cena despite their rivalry. The former 3-time WWE Champion has previously praised the veteran for his contributions to the wrestling business and his ability to perform at the highest level throughout his career.
Cody Rhodes set for Undisputed WWE title bout at SummerSlam 2026
Cody Rhodes is scheduled to challenge CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2026 in Minnesota. The title opportunity came after a series of major developments involving the championship.
Earlier this year, Rhodes lost the Undisputed WWE gold to Sami Zayn in a Triple Threat match that also featured Gunther at Night of Champions 2026.

Rhodes later earned a rematch for the title. However, Gunther attacked him backstage on Monday Night RAW before the championship bout could take place.
CM Punk then returned to WWE after several months away from the promotion. He defeated Zayn to win the Undisputed WWE Championship before later granting Rhodes a title opportunity.
That decision set up the SummerSlam match between Punk and Rhodes. The two stars will now compete for the company’s top prize at WWE’s major summer event in Minnesota.
