The Amalie Arena in Tampa hosted the final UFC fight card of 2024, featuring Colby Covington and Joaquin Buckley as the headliners. The main event between Covington and Buckley attracted significant attention due to the intense action in the ring. After the fight, Covington’s cornerman, Chael Sonnen, shared details about key moments from the match.

Joaquin Buckley entered the octagon at UFC Tampa with confidence, asserting that he would comfortably defeat Colby Covington. As he predicted, ‘New Mansa’ won the match via doctor stoppage. Buckley’s attack caused significant damage to ‘Chaos’, notably inflicting a cut on his right eye. Hours later, Chael Sonnen discussed the severity of the eye injury and the brutality of the fight.

He’s busted open so bad the doctor has to look at it three times. Twice, he stops his actions to let it keep going. The third time he says, ‘Man, we can’t go anymore.’ I was going to stop that fight. I already grabbed the towel. When the doctor came in for the third time and I’m watching that blood, it’s not stopping and it is going into the eye and that’s the only thing you’re really looking for.

Several prominent figures in the UFC community, including CEO Dana White, believed that the fight should not have been stopped. However, Sonnen pointed out that the severity of the eye cut was significant, with blood flowing into Covington’s right eye.

Furthermore, the UFC legend stated that if the welterweight star had continued the fight, there was a risk of him going blind. Therefore, the doctors made the right decision to stop the fight. The concern from the UFC legend is due to the strong camaraderie he shares with Covington.

Over the years, the UFC legend has supported the former welterweight title challenger on several occasions. This friendship was evident when Sonnen expressed concern about Covington taking more damage during his fight against Buckley. Notably, several other prominent figures in the UFC community have also shared their thoughts on Covington’s recent fight.

Belal Muhammad pokes fun at Colby Covington after UFC Tampa outing

Colby Covington is known for his outspoken nature and is never shy about criticizing fellow UFC fighters. Over the years, the American fighter has had heated exchanges with many top competitors in the promotion. One notable name on that list is the reigning UFC welterweight champion, Belal Muhammad. The rivalry between these two welterweights began a few years ago.

Covington has often criticized Muhammad, accusing him of being a racist and performing poorly in the UFC. Recently, however, it was the UFC welterweight champion who took aim at the American fighter. As such, Muhammad cleverly trolled Covington after his brutal defeat against Joaquin Buckley.

4 weeks of no fights and the last thing we’re gonna remember this year is how much Colby s*cks but.. don’t forget that he went to cardio kickboxing war with (Kamaru) usman.

Interestingly, Covington’s defeat at UFC Tampa marked the fifth loss of his career. For the first time in his illustrious UFC journey, ‘Chaos’ faced two consecutive defeats. Now, it will be intriguing to see how the former title challenger rebounds from these setbacks.
