Colorado’s Travis Hunter boldly claims he “can win” Heisman Trophy ahead of Boise State’s RB Ashton Jeanty
Colorado's Travis Hunter says no one, including Boise State's RB Ashton Jeanty, can match his two-way play that has fueled the Buffs' 4-2 start, making him the Heisman favorite.

It has been a while since two no-quarterbacks are the front runners for the Heisman Trophy. Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty have been making their case since the 2024 season began.
However, Hunter sees himself as the clear favorite to win the coveted award. From his point of view, no athlete in college can match his productivity on both sides of the field.
During an appearance on Outta Pocket with Robert Griffin III, Hunter expressed confidence that he will win the Heisman Trophy at season’s end.
To prove his point, Hunter compared their stats so far. The two-way star argued that if he solely played as a receiver, he would have the same amount of yards and touchdowns as Jeanty.
“[Ashton Jeanty] has 95 carries for 1000 yards? If I had 95 catches how many yards do you think I’d have?”

Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty’s 2024 season in numbers
There’s still a long way to go before anyone can be pronounced as the best player in college. Teams have only played six games, and a lot can change in the remaining ones.
Jeanty shot up the ranks to be in the mix for the Heisman following some memorable performances in the past couple of months. The Broncos star running back leads the nation in rushing yards (1,248), yards per carry (9.9), rushing touchdowns (17), and total touchdowns (18).
On top of it, Boise State (ranked 15th best college team in the nation) leads the Mountain West conference with 2-0 and has an overall record of 5-1 in seven weeks of football.
Remarkably, it only took 90 carries for Jeanty to cross the 1000 rushing yards barrier. According to 247 Sports, he is on pace to break Barry Sanders’ FBS record of 2,628 yards and 38 touchdowns set in 1988.

On the other hand, Travis Hunter has had an incredible campaign of his own. The 21-year-old so far has played 322 snaps on offense, leading the Big 12 with 49 receptions and 587 yards. Additionally, Hunter has played 341 snaps on defense and has 16 tackles, two interceptions, and a key game-winning forced fumble.
If he did not pick up an early injury against Kansas State, then the stats might have been even higher. The Buffaloes lost the game by a close margin and sit 4-2 (their best start since Deion Sanders took over as head coach).
