Washington State was outperformed by the Boise State in week 5 by a solid 45-24. The reason, as many are saying, is because they didn’t have running back Ashton Jeanty.
Becoming the only FBS player ever to record four or more touchdowns in multiple games this season, Jeanty is the new superstar of college football. In his four games, he logged 845 yards with 82 carries and 13 touchdowns. And in Saturday’s game, he dominated the field entirely by posting 259 yards with 26 carries and 4 touchdowns.
Since Jeanty became a favorite for the Heisman Trophy, the NFL world has also taken a glance at the running back. The Miami Dolphins’ star De’Von Achane was particularly struck by the Boise State star’s ability to dominate the field and showered high praise at him on X.
Similar to Jeanty, Achane had a record-breaking rookie season in the NFL, setting the highest single-season Yards per Carry record in NFL history with at least 100 carries in a season. He finished his season at 800 yards and 103 carries.
Ashton Jeanty earns praise from coaches after dominating performance
Jeanty, who started this college football season by logging 267 yards with 20 carries and 6 touchdowns, dropped an electrifying performance on Saturday. Not only did he get appreciated by his own head coach, but the Washington head coach Jake Dickert also praised him by calling him “incredible” for his 10 yards per carry average of the game.
Since the moment Jeanty entered the game against Washington, he didn’t give them a chance to take a hold by scoring a 64-yard touchdown run on the very first possession.
In the second half, when his team scored 28 points, he significantly contributed with two rushing touchdowns with his perfect blend of speed and power. With him, the Boise State has now improved to a 3-1 and secured a spot in the AP Top 25 poll.
