Minnesota Vikings (3-0) play Green Bay Packers (2-1) at Lambeau Field in both of their first divisional game of the season. TE Robert Tonyan and RB Aaron Jones will return to their former abode on Sunday, looking to keep their undefeated streak alive.
The Packers released Jones in early March after seven years with the team. During his time, he contributed to four playoff appearances, two NFC Championship games, and three division titles. Robert Tonyan spent five years with the Packers, rotating between injured reserve, active roster, and practice squads. He also led all tight ends in touchdowns during the 2020 season.
Ahead of the game, Packers linebacker Quay Walker took a subtle dig at his former teammate Aaron Jones for joining their rival. Despite the comment, the Packers will want Walker to keep his emotions in check and avoid another ejection.
When speaking to the media, Walker mentioned that he’s not the person to comment on Jones, as they spent significant time together. However, he quickly added that he’s happy with his current team, just minutes after stating that no disrespect was intended.
DAMN: #Packers LB Quay Walker disrespected his former teammate Aaron Jones, who now plays for the #Vikings

“I don’t really think he’s gonna be any different, no disrespect to him.”

The Packers filled the huge void left by the sombrero-wearing Jones with Josh Jacobs. Jacobs signed a four-year, $48m deal with the Packers after the negotiations with the Raiders reached nowhere.
Jacobs and Jones were touted as one of the best duos in the league before Jones was let go. The franchise, however, hasn’t missed Jones as much considering they are on a good run with two wins. Nevertheless, Jordan Love had noted that they will miss Jones.
Aaron Jones to attempt Packers’ Lambeau Field tradition on Sunday
Aaron Jones hasn’t exactly cowered away in throwing daggers at Packers fans. After the Texans’ 34-7 victory, Jones remarked that he’s having the most fun of his NFL career in Minneapolis — a subtle dig at the Packers, where he spent seven long years. However, just a few days ago, Jones also penned an emotional and heartfelt note to Packers fans.
That warmth may soon be tossed aside as Jones attempts to pull off a Packers tradition in the game on 29th September. Jones had said that he envisioned doing a “Lambeau Leap” — where players jump into the crowd after scoring a touchdown — if he finds the end zone for the Vikings. The Lambeau Leap is a cherished Packers tradition at their home stadium, and such a move likely won’t sit well with the fans.
The Vikings are looking for another win that would solidify their name as a serious team this season. A grounded Sam Darnold and the team will look to close the gap between the Packers and Vikings H2H. The Packers won 33-10 their last outing in 2023 at US Bank Stadium while the Vikings defeated them earlier in that season at Lambeau Field.
