On the back of Argentina’s controversial Round of 16 win over Egypt, soccer fans are digging up old dirt on the three-time world champions. A Dallas Cowboys analyst discovered an old video of the Argentina players allegedly chanting racial slurs after their Copa America triumph in 2024.
Veteran Dallas Cowboys analyst Clarence Hill Jr. discovered a video of Argentina players singing “Listen, spread the word” after touching down back home. Here are the lyrics of the song:
Escuchen, corran la bola
juegan en Francia pero son todos de Angola
Que lindo es, van a correr
Son come travas como el p*** de Mbappe
Tu vieja es nigeriana, tu viejo camerunés
Pero en el documento, nacionalidad francés.
Hill Jr. wrote:
Yall can root for [Lionel] Messi and these racists all you want to but this is what you are supporting. Attention all American athletes.

However, some of his followers quickly corrected him. They pointed out the Argentines didn’t sing any xenophobic terms or slurs.
The literal translation of the song is:
Listen, spread the word
They play in France, but they’re all from Angola
How lovely, they will run
They are trans lovers like that f*** Mbappe
Your mom is Nigerian, your dad is Cameroonian
But on your ID, it says French nationality.
Enzo Fernandez, the Argentina midfielder seen in the video clip, later issued a written apology after facing backlash on social media. He wrote:
I want to apologise for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations. The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words.
Hill Jr.’s post comes after Argentina defeated Egypt on Tuesday—in controversial fashion. The VAR overturned Egypt’s second goal after the officials discovered a foul in the buildup. Egypt eventually scored, but Argentina equalized through Messi in the second half. Fernandez dealt the finishing blow by scoring with a header in added time. The game finished 3-2 with Argentina advancing to the quarterfinals.
Argentina fan under investigation for using racial slurs against streamer
IShowSpeed, who has 57 million subscribers on YouTube and 53 million followers on TikTok, has live-streamed several FIFA World Cup 2026 games. With his beloved Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal crashing out of the tournament, IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., attended the Argentina-Egypt game in Atlanta.

His allegiance to Ronaldo meant the fans of Messi are automatically his rival faction. To make matters worse, he watched the game while being surrounded by Argentinians.

Cameras caught some of them name-calling IShowSpeed. The footage has reached FIFA, and according to BBC Sports, the highest governing body of soccer is investigating the situation. A FIFA spokesperson said:
The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.
Argentina will play against Switzerland on July 11 at Kansas City Stadium. Switzerland finished first in Group B with two wins and a draw. In the first knockout game, they defeated Algeria 2-0 and knocked out Colombia on penalties in the following game.
