While fans expected that having their wives at the stadium might help the players’ luck but nothing of this sort happened. Both Virat Kohli (14) and Rohit Sharma (15) got out cheaply in India’s first innings. In fact, India lost all four top-order batters within 100 runs (71 to be precise) and it was down to the lower middle order to bail the team out of trouble yet again.

Ajinkya Rahane (89), Shardul Thakur (51), and Ravindra Jadeja (48) responded well to this challenge. On the back of these three knocks, India managed to keep Australia’s lead under 200 (173). Nevertheless, Australia are still way ahead as the Pat Cummins-led team leads India by 296 runs.
