Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has confirmed that they have prepared special pitches at home to practice ahead of the high-octane Gavaskar-Border Trophy which is slated to start on February 9. Australia have not won a Test series on Indian soil since 2004 (2-1) under Adam Gilchrist’s captaincy.

Kieran Meurant is the curator of the North Sydney Oval who prepared the pitches that McDonald hoped for. Those players who are not part of the Big Bash League (BBL) will be a part of a short pre-series camp for intense training for two days.

Kieran has done a fantastic job here with the groundstaff to produce exactly what we want,” coach Andrew McDonald said. “We feel as though out there the surfaces we got are very similar to what we’re going to confront in India which is very difficult to replicate, but we feel as though we’ve got close to that, so the ground staff have done a fantastic job.”

Australia will play four-match Test series in India

The Aussies haven’t yet lost a series since they won the Ashes in 2021. They played in Pakistan last year and won the series 1-0; they then drew the series against Sri Lanka, before whitewashing West Indies at home and winning against South Africa as well. It will be a test for Pat Cummins too as he hasn’t lost a Test series since becoming the captain.

They are the top-ranked team now and are very likely to play in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). If India fail badly, they might lose the second spot to South Africa or Sri Lanka. The WTC will be played in June this year.

Cummins’ men will first land in Bengaluru next week for five days before catching the flight to Nagpur. The first Test will be played in Vidharbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium will host the second Test, while the third Test will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. The final will be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
