Needless to say, the two neighbor countries are eternal rivals in cricket because of strained political tensions. India had last played in Pakistan was in the Aisa Cup 2008. The last time Pakistan toured India for a bilateral series was back in 2012-13.

However, Pakistan’s last visit to India was in T20 World Cup in 2016. Since then, they have only clashed in ICC events and Asia Cups. Shah’s recent statement added more spark to the rivalry.

Ex- Pakistani players like Shahid Afridi, Saeed AnwarYounis Khan, Kamran Akmal, and even the legendary Javen Miandad have harshly criticised the richest cricketing body, have gone to the extent of boycotting Sunday’s clash in the T20 World Cup. Both India and Pakistan will open their campaign on Sunday [October 23] at the MCG in Melbourne.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s Twitter handle issued a statement, slamming Shah to disrupt the spirit of the Asian Cricket Council, and blamed him for not discussing the matter with PCB. PCB also threatened that India’s ruling out of Asia Cup 2023 would also mean Pakistan’s pulling themselves out of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

BCCI might have liked the tweet to show they’re not concerned with what others has to say; they’ll remain firm with their decision of not sending their players to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, check what Jay Shah said on this issue after the recent AGM meeting. “Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan,” said Shah.

It’s the govt which decides over the permission of our team visiting Pakistan so we won’t comment on that but for the 2023 Asia Cup, it is decided that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue,” he added further.
