The World Test Championship (WTC) is approaching and the preparations for the same have also started. India will lock horns with Australia on June 7 at The Oval in London. But ahead of the much-awaiting one-off Test, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt compared India captain Rohit Sharma with former India captain MS Dhoni.
Butt wanted to say how like MS Dhoni, Rohit also should lead from the front if he demands the same from his players. Notably, Rohit has often drawn criticism from fans and experts for his fitness which got compounded after his series of poor shows with the bat during India’s matches, including the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL).
“There’s a world of difference between the two (Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni). Rohit Sharma has a big designation; he’s the captain of India. He should be leading by example in all aspects, and fitness is a very important aspect,” Butt said on his YouTube channel.
“As a captain, when you are in a position to demand something from your teammates, you should have them yourself. You should be top of the line,” Butt added.

Sanjay Manjrekar backs Rohit Sharma despite flop show in IPL
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has backed Rohit Sharma despite his poor show in the IPL, where, in 16 matches he has scored just 332 runs. Manjrekar said that though the Indian captain looked out of form in the last IPL, he amazingly batted in the first Test against Australia in February during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit had scored a century in the first Test.
Manjrekar believes at this stage of Rohit’s career, Test cricket can be the most exciting format for him and considers the 36-year-old’s batting almost faultless in the red-ball format. The last time India played a Test series in England (in 2021), Rohit scored 368 runs in four Tests at an average of 52.27.
