In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series which started on February 9, India performed brilliantly on Day 1 as they bundled out the visitors for a mere 177 runs. But off the field, they have bad news.

Their star speedster Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the entire four-match series against Australia. According to a report in The Telegraph Calcutta, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to not risk him in the Test series, as have they kept in mind the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India. He can time take some time off to get fully fit.

Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Association (NCA) in Bengaluru undergoing rehabilitation. He will be asked to prove his fitness in the coming weeks.

The Telegraph quoted sources as saying: “Bumrah has been undergoing full-tilt bowling sessions at the NCA for the past few days and has pulled up well. There has been no stiffness the following day, which is the most encouraging part of him.”

The Mumbai Indians pacer was expected to join Team India in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in January but he complained of stiffness and got ruled out of the entire series. When the BCCI released the players’ names for the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Bumrah’s name was not there and fans hoped of seeing him in the last two matches.

Jasprit Bumrah last played for India in September last year and his stress fracture ruled him out from major series like the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. His last match was a T20I against Australia in Hyderabad on September 25, 2022. Since making his debut in 2018, Jasprit Bumrah has featured in 30 Tests, scalping 128 wickets at 21.94. Across all three formats, Bumrah has played 30 Tests, 72 ODIs, and 60 T2OIs so far.
