The 64th match of the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) had everything a cricket fan could think of. There were dropped catches, missed runouts, three half-centuries, nearly a century, and some terrible tactics. Eventually, it was a win for Delhi Capitals by 15 runs and almost the end of the road for Punjab Kings who only have one game left in IPL 2023.
The Shikhar Dhawan-led team erred big time as they first conceded 213 runs in their 20 overs and then failed to chase it down. Despite Liam Livingstone’s valiant knock (94 off 48), PBKS fell short of the target by 15 runs. But it was not a normal finish. Instead, there were multiple twists in the tale.
DC put on a show with the bat, scoring 213/2 in their 20 overs. Rilee Rossouw (82* off 37), Prithvi Shaw (54 off 38), and David Warner (46 off 31) starred with the bat for DC. Meanwhile, Punjab lost an early wicket as Shikhar Dhawan fell for a golden duck. Prahsimran Singh (22 off 19) and Atharva Taide (55 off 42) did pull back things but the scoring rate was not there.
Punjab choke despite Liam Livingstone’s heroics
Liam Livingstone entered the arena with only one target in his mind- to close the game in Punjab’s favour. The Punjab batter got enough help from DC fielders as Livingstone survived twice. He then capitalized on those chances and kept PBKS alive in the contest despite wickets falling at the other end.
Eventually, it all came down to 33 off the last over. Livingstone hit a six and a four on the second and third deliveries to keep Punjab alive. Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma erred big time and bowled a no-ball on the next delivery. But Livingstone failed to take advantage of the free hit and in the end it was a win for DC.
