Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsman Heinrich Klaasen slammed his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday (May 18) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. His knock helped the Orange Army reach 186/5 in 20 overs.
After choosing to bowl first, RCB got the early breakthroughs through the wickets of openers Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi off Michael Bracewell in the fifth over. But their wickets saw Klaasen enter the field and he took the entire responsibility of SRH’s batting lineup to take them toward a massive score.
He rescued the team from faltering and their third wicket did not fall before the 13th over. Shahbaz Ahmed bowled out skipper Aiden Markram to invite Harry Brook to the side. But Brook’s knock did not help much as all he scored were a mere unbeaten 27 runs from 19 balls. Had he contributed more runs, SRH would have crossed the 200-run mark.
But Heinrich Klaasen was the lone warrior. He hammered his maiden century and got out in the penultimate over through Harshal Patel’s slower full toss. Klaasen danced down the track and missed the ball which went past him to shatter the stumps. The Proteas departed after scoring 104 runs from just 51 balls with eight fours and six sixes at an incredible strike rate of 203.92.

The match is slipping out of SRH’s hands as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis are driving their team to the target. Both the RCB openers have hammered their half-centuries in their do-or-die match. If they win, they will keep their playoffs hope alive. They have to rack up another win in their final league match against defending champions and table-toppers Gujarat Titans.
RCB have reached 117/0 in 14 overs and if everything goes well for the Faf du Plessis-led side, then they will clinch a comfortable win. Kohli is batting at 63* off 43, while du Plessis has scored 52* off 36.
