Yet another season, yet another failure for the Punjab Kings. The team that seemed one of the strongest on paper after the IPL 2023 auction was one of the weakest teams on the field. With 6 wins in 14 matches, PBKS finished 8th on the points table with just 12 points in their bag.
They were unfortunate with players like Jonny Bairstow, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kagiso Rabada being injured for long periods of time. Their highest run-scorer was skipper Shikhar Dhawan with 373 runs in 11 innings and the highest wicket-taker was Arshdeep Singh with 17 wickets in 14 matches.
Punjab can look to release quite a few players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. A handful of players will be freed and the PBKS management will look to rebuild their squad.

Players Punjab Kings will look to release ahead of IPL 2024 Auction
1. Sam Curran
The Punjab Kings paid a whopping 18.5 crores for English all-rounder Sam Curran, making him the most expensive player in the history of the IPL. However, he did not do much justice to his staggering price tag. He scored 276 runs in his 14 matches and picked up 10 wickets. Safe to say it was an average outing for Curran. PBKS will look to release him in the auction and get him back at a lower price to use that money elsewhere.
2. Raj Angad Bawa
The star all-rounder from the U-19 world cup, Raj Angad Bawa, was picked up by the Punjab Kings in 2022 and ended up playing just 2 matches with no effective performance. He was not given a single game in 2023 which makes it unlikely that Punjab would look to retain him moving ahead.
3. Bhanuka Rajapaksa
The feisty Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, might have to make way for Jonny Bairstow moving into the next season of the IPL. In his 13 IPL matches, he has scored 277 runs including one half-century at an average of 23.08. He was another overseas batter who failed to turn up for the Punjab Kings and they are likely to release him heading into the auctions.
4. Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar had a disappointing outing in this edition of the TATA IPL. Though he managed an overall economy of under 8, with just 8 wickets in 14 matches, he doesn’t seem to what was PBKS needs from him as a bowler. The side could look to release him from the squad to rope in some fresh talent.
