The match between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers of the Big Bash League (BBL) was suspended by the umpires due to the pitch of the GMHBA Stadium, South Geelong, Victoria. As per the umpires, the pitch was unsafe to bat on, which is why they suspended the game after 6.5 overs.

After winning the toss, the Renegades started to field first. Stephen Eskinazi and Cooper Connolly failed to give a good start to the side. When Aaron Hardie and Josh Inglish were batting, the umpires decided to call off the match with the score reading 30/2.

The pitch offered uneven, strange bounce and the players from both sides deemed it dangerous. Due to a damp area on the pitch, the ball incurred a weird bounce. The reason behind the condition of the pitch was due to rainwater from the last night seeping under the covers of the pitch.

Here’s what Aaron Finch has to say about the pitch

Former Australia captain Aaron Finch, who has retired from all forms of cricket, was on the commentary panel. He gave his analysis of the pitch by pointing out that the balls were landing on the damp good length area.

It's been tapped in (by curators) but it's just taking some big divots out of the surface there as well. You can see that one that Josh Inglish got there. It's gripped the seam, and it's bouncing ridiculously.

He added:

If that's in line with someone's body or their head, then there could be some real issues.

The previous BBL match between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat was abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain in Adelaide. The next match of the BBL Sydney is between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers.
