The Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick start on March 31 at the huge Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. And reports have emerged that two actresses Rashmika Mandanna and Tamanna Bhatia are likely to perform in the opening ceremony. Mandanna is popular for her roles in films like Pushpa: The Rise, Sita Raman, Varisu, and others, while Bhatia has done films like Bahubali, KGF, and others.

Yes, there will be an opening ceremony on the 31st. It will be a short one but as the home and away format returns, we felt it was necessary to welcome back the home crowd with a ceremony,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Notably, this will also be the first time in four years the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will host an opening ceremony since the Covid-19 outbreak. The BCCI wants several Bollywood A-listers for the ceremony.

The opening ceremony will begin at 7:30 pm ahead of the IPL 2023 opening match. After the ceremony, defending champions Gujarat Titans will lock horns with four-time champions Chennai Super Kings. The match is expected to start half an hour later.

As Star Sports Network won the broadcasting rights for this season also, fans can watch the ceremony on Star Sports channels. Voot and Jio Cinema apps and their respective websites will live stream the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile like the previous season, 10 teams will participate in IPL 2023. They will be divided into two groups. A total of 74 matches will be played, including two qualifiers, one eliminator, and one final. The 70 league matches will be played across 12 venues over the course of 52 days.

The tournament will mark the return of the home-and-away format, so all the teams will play seven home games and an equal number of away games in the league stage. The final will be played on May 28.

In the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL), Bollywood actresses Kiara Advani, Kirti Sanon, and Punjabi rapper AP Dhillon performed at the opening ceremony. But it received mixed responses due to the absence of Bollywood superstars.
