Former cricketer Shahid Afridi has slammed Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for his controversial tweet after Pakistan lost to England in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (November 13). Shami’s tweet came as a surprise to many as he generally doesn’t involve himself in any replies or debates.
After the loss, former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar uploaded a post with a heartbreaking emoji on Twitter. Replying to this, Shami said: ‘Sorry brother, it’s call Karma.’ The response obviously didn’t settle well with many, and there were even debates organized on the tweet.
Afridi believes that being a role model of people, cricketers shouldn’t indulge into such activities. “We are cricketers, we are ambassadors and role models. We should try to end all of this. We are neighbours. We shouldn’t do things that cultivate hate. If we start doing such things, what can we expect from the common people,” Afridi told Pakistani channel Samaa TV.

Shahid Afridi believes sports can improve the tense relationship between the two countries. He expressed his desire to see the Indian team play in Pakistan. The 45-year-old also stated that being part of the current team, Shami should have avoided passing such comments on social platforms.
“Our relationships obviously improve with sports. We want to play with them and also see them play in Pakistan. Even if you are retired, you shouldn’t do this. But you are a part of the current team, you should definitely avoid such things,” said the former Pakistan captain.

Despite giving a below-par target of 138, the Pakistani bowlers fought well to bring their side back into the game. But a late injury to Shaheen Afridi played spoilsport in the end. England all-rounder Ben Stokes rose to the big occasion once again as he scored an unbeaten fifty to take his side over the line.
